  1. During my last job search I ended up accepting two offers at the same time. I went through a several round of interviews with two, somewhat distinct companies; financial services and manufacturing. My first choice and passion was to join the financial services group, however, even after several successful interviews they were not ready to extend an official offer. In such a difficult economy, you want to make sure you have a job at all, so i decided to accept with my second choice. Little did i know, my first choice company extended me an offer 2 days later. I had two offers on my hands with the challenge of handling both the recruiting agents and the prospective employers. My first approach and advice to anyone would be: BE HONEST! Most probably the agent will be more annoyed with the situation than the employer. Call in person and explain the situation. Make sure that you state that you are still think very highly of the company and everyone you met. Thank them for their time and tell them that the decision was very difficult. In my case, i mentioned that the opportunity in the financial services group was closer to my goals. Offer to refer someone of similar qualities and professional characteristics to soften the hit. Try not to expand on why you are not choosing them, but rather concentrate on being thankful to be considered for the job. Be firm, as most of the time employers will try to "butter you up" with compensation changes. Always leave on the good terms.
